Safeway and Albertsons Face Potential Major Strikes: Demands for Wage Increases, Health Benefits

Safeway and Albertsons Face Potential Major Strikes: Demands for Wage Increases, Health Benefits. Safeway and the union representing its workers are up against a midnight deadline to work out a deal to avoid a strike. If not, workers could go on strike tomorrow. UFCW Local 7 said they gave Safeway the required 72-hour notice of a strike.

The union says if they strike tomorrow, it will be small at first and will expand as the strike continues. The union says the strikes will be at Safeway Albertson’s locations in four cities across the state.

Those include Denver, Estus Park, Fountain, and PBLO. Workers say this back and forth has been happening since last fall. They’ve wanted Safeway Albertsons to address staffing, what they call poverty level wages, and making sure workers health and pension benefits stay fully funded.
