Costco’s $48 Hulken Bag Dupe Returns to Stock

Living in New York City has its perks, and one of my favorites is not needing a car to get around. Whether I’m heading to a chain store like Trader Joe’s or just running errands, the subway or bus system makes it easy to reach almost anywhere. However, no matter how I choose to move—walking or using public transit—I always have to carry everything I buy home with me. This often leads to an existential crisis in the canned goods aisle, where I weigh the desire to purchase something against the fear of making my bag too heavy.
I’ve had my eye on a Hulken bag, a stylish reusable tote on wheels, for a while now. But these bags come with a hefty price tag, which makes them a big financial commitment. Recently, I discovered a near-identical dupe from Costco that’s back in stock at a fraction of the cost. It might just be the solution I need to avoid those shopping-related stress moments.
What Is the CleverMade Foldable Tote Bag on Wheels?
In a post about the newest items at Costco, Instagram user @costco_empties shared that the Hulken-inspired CleverMade foldable tote bag on wheels is back at the warehouse chain. According to the post, the bag comes in shiny black and costs $39.99 in-store, though it can also be purchased online for $47.99. This isn’t the first time the CleverMade tote on wheels has been available at Costco; it was also sold last April, suggesting it may be a seasonal item.
The CleverMade bag has a 90-liter, 75-pound capacity, making it much roomier than a typical tote. It measures 14 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 24 inches tall. The design includes a side pocket, three sizable straps, a zipper closure, and the ability to fold up when not in use. It looks like a stylish purse-hamper hybrid on wheels. Costco’s website suggests using this wheeled bag for laundry, shopping, and “hauling sports gear,” but I could also see it being useful for moving, taking a large package to the post office, bringing clothes to a swap or thrift shop, or even for a day at the park or beach.
It’s worth noting that the Costco dupe falls somewhere between a medium and a large Hulken. A medium Hulken, which costs $110, is 12 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 22 inches tall, while the large version, priced at $125, is 16 inches long, 20 inches wide, and 26 inches tall.

An Alternative to Shop if You Can’t Get to Costco
If the CleverMade tote bag has caught your eye but you don’t live near a Costco or don’t have a membership, the actual Hulken bag—on which the Costco dupe is inspired—is a good alternative. You can purchase a Hulken bag from their “signature collection” on Amazon or their official website. They offer large zip-up tote bags on swivel wheels with plenty of variety, including a fun range of colors. (Note: The medium version is priced at $121, and the large at $138, with fewer color options available on Amazon.)
On the Hulken site, there’s a similar shiny black option as the CleverMade tote, along with matte black, metallic lavender, silver, and “cosmic red,” among others. No matter which size you choose or where you buy it, the Hulken tote is significantly more expensive than the Costco version.
