These 6 JCPenney Stores Will Close Simultaneously with West Ridge Mall Location in Topeka
The deadlines are coming up soon for
seven JCPenney stores
Those locations that faced potential closure earlier this year have been spared, with one previously announced shutdown now delayed until at least August.
The most recent JCPenney store closings, which were
initially announced in February
, come after
over 200 sites across the U.S.
shuttered when the retailer
has filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 protección
In May 2020, the company was subsequently taken over by Simon Property Group and Brookfield Asset Management Inc. in December of the same year.
In January, JCPenney revealed it had
partnered with Forever 21
To establish a new entity named Catalyst Brands. This consolidation will also encompass Brooks Brothers, Aéropostale, Lucky Brand, Nautica, and Eddie Bauer.
Catalyst Brands
was anticipated to launch 1,800 new stores and bring aboard 60,000 workers. A representative from JCPenney stated this.

that the store closings are unrelated to the Catalyst Brand merger.
A representative from Catalyst Brands informed USA TODAY on Wednesday that the parent company is “streamlining” its organization, leading to approximately 9% of its corporate positions being eliminated.
These are the JCPenney locations that will be shutting down this year along with their closure dates.
When will the JCPenney locations be closed and which ones?
The following stores are each scheduled to close.

- The Shops at Tanforan located in San Bruno, California
- The Northfield Shopping Center in Denver, Colorado
- Pine Ridge Mall located in Pocatello, Idaho
- The West Ridge Mall located in Topeka, Kansas
- The Fox Run Mall located in Newington, New Hampshire
- The Asheville Mall located in Asheville, North Carolina
- Charleston Town Center in Charleston, West Virginia
The Annapolis, Maryland site will stay open until at least August.
earlier this year, JCPenney stated that they would close their store at the Westfield Annapolis Mall in Annapolis, Maryland by the end of May. But now, things have shifted around.
As per a lease extension deal, the store will stay operational until at least August 31st, according to a statement from a JCPenney representative to USA TODAY on Wednesday.
By Wednesday, the store’s clearance sale had come to an end.

What reasons are behind the closure of JCPenney stores?
Although details weren’t disclosed, a representative from JCPenney informed USA TODAY in the past that certain stores might be shut down because of reasons such as “expired leases, shifts in the market, or various other elements.”
