Lebanese Prime Minister Warns of Risk of New War with Israel
Lebanese Prime Minister Warns of Risk of New War with Israel. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned his country risks being plunged into a new war with Israel “suddenly,” as the death toll from an Israeli strike on Lebanon rose to seven on Saturday.
At least seven people were killed in the bloodiest Israeli strike on Lebanon since the country broke out on November 27. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Kats ordered a second round of attacks against dozens of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in secret.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that two children were killed in Taulin along with three others in the daytime strikes. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that an Israeli airstrike on the southern coastal town of Taire killed at least one person. Another Israeli strike in Kale southeast of Taire seriously wounded four people at a local hospital.
The Israeli military confirmed the strikes, saying they targeted targets claimed by Hezbollah in a second wave of attacks overnight. Hezbollah has vehemently denied any involvement in the rocket attacks launched from southern Lebanon into northern Israel in a sudden manner.
Hezbollah corrected Israel’s claim to have made excuses for launching more airstrikes in a very tactically clever way. Hezbollah reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire signed in November 2024 that abruptly ended the one-year war between the two sides.
