Israel Committed to Hostage Release Framework, but Hamas Rejects Proposal
Israel was prepared to extend the framework for the release of our hostages. We agreed to an American proposal to extend the ceasefire by 50 days, covering the periods of Ramadan and Passover, in exchange for the release of more hostages. Unfortunately, Hamas rejected this proposal, despite Israel’s acceptance of the terms. This rejection has temporarily halted progress, as the first phase of the temporary ceasefire concluded recently.
As of today, we have suspended all operations on the tracks leading into Gaza Street, which were active over the past 42 days. Israel remains committed to negotiation and is always ready to engage in talks that align with our principles. It is important to emphasize that we fulfilled all our commitments up until the very last day of the ceasefire, which ended yesterday.
The key question now is: What happens next in the negotiation process? Israel’s position remains clear: during negotiations, hostages should be released. We stand ready to resume discussions and work toward a resolution that ensures the safe return of all hostages while upholding our principles.
