Germany Backs Arab-Led Gaza Reconstruction Plan, Contrasting Trump’s Stance

Germany Backs Arab-Led Gaza Reconstruction Plan, Contrasting Trump’s Stance. The German government has expressed its support for the Arab-led initiative to rebuild Gaza, which was heavily damaged by Israeli airstrikes on Friday. This stance stands in contrast to the position of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who opposed the reconstruction plan and advocated for the forced relocation of Palestinians to establish a new authority in the region.

A spokesperson for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the Arab countries’ reconstruction proposal includes “many positive elements.” Echoing this sentiment, Anna Lena Baerbock, spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry, confirmed that Berlin is actively discussing the details of Gaza’s reconstruction with several Western partners.

Germany also emphasized that forcibly displacing or expelling residents from any territory violates international law. This statement directly contradicts Trump’s proposal to reject the Arab-backed reconstruction efforts and instead push for the forced relocation of Palestinians to create a new governing entity in Gaza.

The Arab League’s reconstruction plan, known as the “Gaza Reconstruction Initiative,” is grounded in principles that prioritize stability and development. German officials highlighted that the plan contains constructive elements and stressed the importance of ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.

The German government, in coordination with its international partners, has agreed that future efforts must prevent the rearmament of militant groups and exclude the involvement of Hamas in any governing structure. This collaborative approach aims to foster long-term peace and security in the region.
