In its closing statement, the summit emphasized that the top priority is achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, while acknowledging the significant challenges involved in its implementation.
The summit also firmly rejected any form of forced displacement of Palestinians from their land and reiterated full support for the two-state solution, describing it as the most realistic path to peace. Citing Almayadeen, the leaders of Arab nations present at the summit discussed the formation of a new security and political framework for Gaza. They further urged the United Nations Security Council to deploy international peacekeeping forces to the West Bank and Gaza.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit highlighted the importance of finalizing a ceasefire agreement during a press conference following the summit. He also addressed plans to deploy international peacekeeping forces in Gaza and the West Bank. Aboul Gheit emphasized that the reconstruction plan aims to ensure Gaza and the West Bank remain under a unified authority. He reiterated the Arab countries’ firm stance against any attempts to displace the Palestinian people, stressing that the reconstruction plan outlines a clear political and security roadmap for Gaza.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced the implementation of the summit’s final statement, as well as Egypt’s comprehensive plan for the reconstruction and development of Gaza. During the summit, President El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s efforts to establish an independent committee to manage Gaza in coordination with the Palestinian Authority (PA). He explained that this committee, tasked with overseeing the reconstruction process, will facilitate the PA’s return to governance in Gaza.
The summit’s final declaration underscored the Arab nations’ commitment to supporting Gaza’s recovery while advocating for a lasting political resolution to the crisis. The leaders also called for international cooperation to ensure the success of the reconstruction efforts and the stabilization of the region.
